Back when people regularly went to arcades and gaming centers for their usual entertainment fix, these games have been the solid gold mine for businesses. With the rise of video games, virtual reality and other forms of entertainment, however, arcades have been losing some of their appeal — but that doesn’t mean they’re dead yet. It inspired many other classic space shooter games and has been remade several times with added features and graphics to its games. As such, it is widely considered to be a milestone in gaming history. 1. Guide: How much space do you need for a Pool Table?

How much space do you need for a Pool Table? Pool Tables are one of our most popular products, and the number #1 question that we get is always around the subject of the space requirements of installing a pool table at home, or in an office. To make things easy for the first-timer, we have put together a guide that can comprehensively guide you through this process. All you need will just be a household measuring tape, and if you'd like to mark out the pool table in the preferred placement, then some masking tapes as well.    Calculating The Area Required In order to get the maximum enjoyment out of your pool table, it’s important that you allow for sufficient playing space surrounding the table. We will advise you of the recommended area and some useful alternatives if you have space constraints. When it comes to calculating the area required for a pool table, it’s rather simple—just use this formula and you will arrive at the ideal space necessary for a pool table. This works for the many different variants of pool tables, from a 7FT English Pool, to a 12FT Snooker Table.  Pool Playing Area Formula: Calculations are based on a standard 57" cue, or commonly thought of as a 5ft cue. Ideal Length of Room = Length of Pool Table + 5' + 5'  Ideal Width of Room: Width of Pool Table + 5' + 5' As an example. If you are looking at a 7' pool table which will measure around 4' in width, then the room that is required is Length (7'+5'+5') x Width (4'+5'+5') which will work out to 17ft x 14ft. The above example is based on an ideal, but as much as 70% of our customers do not have such an open space to spare, and if that's you, carry on reading! Space Saving Alternative In the case where space is limited, a 48” troubleshooter cue can be used when shots at the edge of the table are to be taken. In this case, you could reduce the space required by a further 2ft (0.6m) on both the length and width. These are specially designed cues that are shorter in length to be used for tight spaces. Therefore, a 7ft (2.1m) table would only require 15ft x 11.5ft, which is a much smaller area than the original space calculated in the above example. It is also important to note that there are many lengths of such troubleshooter cues which will even give you the flexibility of choosing a larger table for your space. We often equip clients with the right sized troubleshooter cues (at no extra charge!) to ensure that every table when delivered, is fully playable and satisfactory.  Need Help with Pool Table Sizing? Your One-Stop, Quick Shuffleboard Guide

Are you interested in buying your own shuffleboard table but not sure where to begin? Perhaps you’re wondering if this is the right game for you? Maybe you’re a fan of air hockey who is looking for a similar game with tons of different playstyle options? If any of the above applies to your situation or you have other similar concerns, this is the right guide for you!    What Is Shuffleboard? Shuffleboard is played on a levelled surface with pucks that are pushed across the table with your hands—making it super easy to learn and pick up on the go. The players take turns sliding their pucks across the table to their opponent’s side to score points (each table segment that the puck is on is a certain amount of points) while trying to knock their opponent’s pucks off the playing field. Yes, it’s within the rules that you’re required to knock them out of the game! The winner is decided based on who is the first to get up to 15 points in total. Traditional shuffleboard games are usually played with either 2 to 4 players, but you can take turns for larger groups as most games are finished up quite quickly due to its fast gameplay style and simple mechanics.    Calculating The Area Required: Shuffleboard tables are long but narrow, coming in a range of different lengths which make them relatively space-saving for most living spaces or game rooms. The tables usually range from around 9 feet minimum to as long as 22 feet in total. 22-feet long shuffleboard tables are considered the standard size for professional shuffleboard tables that qualify for competitive use. This measurement list also includes the suitable puck size needed for each specific shuffleboard table length:    Please ensure that you have at least an extra 3 feet (around 91.44cm) of playing room on all sides of the shuffleboard table as this is recommended by professionals to keep your playing space at an optimum.  If you’re tight on space and just looking at a shuffleboard table for casual play, you should aim for a length of about 14 to 20 feet. This will provide you with plenty of playing room while making it more beginner-friendly depending on your requirements.    High Replayability Through Various Playstyles: Getting a shuffleboard table is a great investment because of the many different variations of the game that exist. There is also the option of turning your shuffleboard table into a makeshift “bowling alley” with our wooden shuffleboard pins, spicing up random game nights at home.  In fact, table shuffleboard itself is considered a miniature version of floor shuffleboard, a popular version of shuffleboard usually played on cruise ship decks or in retirement homes amongst old people due to its low-intensity physical requirements. As the namesake suggests, this version of shuffleboard is played on the floor with much larger pucks, showcasing its versatility.   Therefore, what are you waiting for? Your shuffleboard table options and playstyles are endless! If you’re interested in other types of game tables, you can take a look at the rest of our Space Guide series.

Space Guide: TeqBall

Are you interested in buying your own teqball table but not sure where to begin? With new skin in the game, Teqball is a new sport based on conventional football that is currently taking the world by storm. With endorsement by many famous footballers such as Messi, Beckham, and Ronaldinho, it seems like no surprise to see more and more people trying the game themselves.    If you’re interested in purchasing a Teqball table to get started, this space guide will help provide you with a better idea of some basic requirements you will need to figure out beforehand.   Calculating The Area Required: Since the game is based on football, a certain amount of space is necessary even if the ball is never meant to touch the floor during the game unlike its predecessor. Therefore if you’re planning to buy a Teqball table, please keep in mind that the official Teqball court measurements are 12m (width) x 16m (length) x 7m (height).  If you only have an indoor environment to place the table and are tight on space, you should make sure that your total playing space is at least be 10m long and wide, with at least 4m of ceiling height for optimal gameplay. Most full-spec Teqball tables have the following measurements: Length: 300cm Width: 150/170cm (without/with net) Height: 90cm (with net) Here is also an image to help you visualise what a Teqball court should look like when you’re playing Teqball: The halfway line and service line of at least 1cm thickness should be painted or marked starting from the edge of the table to the end of the court’s boundaries. You should also make sure to use a different colour from your flooring so that all segments are visible while playing.  The service baseline on both ends should be 1.5m long and at least a meter away from both ends of the Teqball table (3.5m from the halfway point).  For more space-efficiency options, you can opt for the Teq Lite model as it is made from lighter material while having a foldable feature that allows it to be kept aside when not in use. This is good for indoor environments, especially in multipurpose game rooms or public areas.    If this guide was useful to you, you can take a look at our Space Guide series for more tips on space and other requirements for your Men’s Cave favourites!

TMC On The Barcade Experience: The Ultimate Boozy Childhood Playground

Have you ever heard of the term ‘barcade’? If you haven’t, a barcade is exactly as it sounds: the combination of both a bar and an arcade all wrapped up in one convenient location. Barcades usually favor stocking more classic retro games than modern ones—think pinball machines, old Daytona racing games, and other classic arcade staples in the 90s—while serving you snacks and your favourite boozy beverage of choice on the side. For me, the barcade is the arcade’s older brother, cooler and more refined while still loving the same things, with a penchant for alcohol after growing up.   While barcades seem like a novelty concept considering how most trends come and go in today’s brand of living, The Men’s Cave team beg to differ.  The barcade experience appeals and interests us because it represents how we as adults never really grow up and are simply kids at heart with more adult-like tastes. It caters to the notion that you don’t have to be in a specific age group just to be able to enjoy games that you used to love—and still do—as a child.  This is the same type of spirit The Men’s Cave has constantly strived its best to capture within the products and services we provide for our customers. It’s also this spirit that drives our enthusiasm to help people create their own one-of-a-kind ‘man cave’ that will allow their homes to be both a place of respite and enjoyment. Therefore, it feels fair that we look along the same vein at barcades since it provides a similar experience but in a more public setting. Perhaps a man’s cave is just your own private and personalised barcade within the reaches of your own home? The notion is difficult to dispute.  [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Beercade Headquaters in Chicago.[/caption] The barcade is pretty much a childhood playground with alcoholic treats and finger food! Much like a man cave, the barcade provides sanctuary for the young at heart while giving you a fun and relaxing place to chill and just be yourself regardless of whether you’re there with company or not.  For many of us at a certain age, drinking becomes less of a rite of passage into adulthood—the first time you get to drink legally as an adult—and more of a pastime, a way for people to socialise and forget their worries for a temporary moment. It is what replaces the joy of gaming as we grow up because it’s deemed as ‘more appropriate’ for the working adult. However, the TMC team disagrees on such a thing, which is where the barcade comes in.  As the name suggests, alcohol and games are things that can both go hand-in-hand, especially as we grow older. Growing up doesn’t mean we have to let go of one thing for another and the barcade concept is proof of that, having thrived over the past few decades and is still going strong. It’s not reshelling your childhood memories to you but rather, barcades allow you to continue enjoying the same things while catering to the older you.    Fun tip for you: Barcades are probably the only place where drunk driving is allowed and actually encouraged by both friends and family (as long as it’s within the premise!) Still, not all barcades are created equal. Some only provide specific types of retro games instead of having a more general range, while others might put more emphasis on their alcohol section and provide drink pairings with the games they have to allow for a more immersive experience. Regardless of the different types of barcades there are, one thing’s for sure: No barcade is complete without a wide plethora of classic childhood games! Even if you’re unsure of what kind of barcade would suit you, there’s at least the guarantee that you’ll have tons of fun trying out all the games and drinks each of them will have to offer. If any of this has managed to tickle your interest, you can check out this list of barcades in Singapore to visit or plan your next social gathering at: click me! However, do bear in mind that the barcade is a concept that isn’t tied down to a specific location. By the end of the day, the most important thing about a barcade is not in having a fancy location or all the latest gadgets, it’s the joy and memories you make while you’re there, combining an adult palette for booze and an unwavering love of video games and other classic childhood games.
