What Is the Minimum Golf Simulator Screen Size for the Best Indoor Golf Play?

The game of golf has been around for centuries, and it remains one of the most popular sports in the world. For those who don't have time to make it out to a course, or for those who just want to practise their swing, a golf simulator can be an excellent way to enjoy this timeless game. But before investing in a golf simulator, you might be asking: what is the minimum golf simulator screen size? The short answer is: there is no specific minimum size for golf simulator screens. Having said that, the actual screen size of your simulator will depend on several considerations, most importantly the screen aspect ratio. In this article, we'll be discussing the recommended minimum screen height and width for golf simulators and the impact screen guidelines to consider when choosing the size to buy. So, without much delay... What Is the Minimum Screen Sizes for Golf Simulators? The minimum screen size for golf simulators can vary based on the aspect ratio of the screen, primarily due to the nature of the golf simulation experience and the need to accurately replicate the golf course environment and gameplay through the screen. Common aspect ratios for golf simulators include 21:9, 16:9, 16:10, and 21:9. But before diving into the smallest measurements for impact screen sizes for each screen aspect ratio, let's first answer the question... What Are Aspect Ratios? Aspect ratios refer to the relationship between the width and height of a digital image or impact screens, in this case. For instance, a 16:9 screen aspect ratio means that the width is 1.77 times larger than the height. This applies to golf simulator screens and is a basis for some golf players in choosing a golf simulator to work with at home. And while the general rule is that the larger the screen size the better golf play, you can always opt for the smallest screen size if you have certain limitations you need to be wary of. The most popular screen aspect ratios for our QED golf simulators and launch monitors are 21:9, 16:10, 16:9, and 4:3. 21:9 Ratio — Recommended Minimum Screens Size: 10' Diagonally A general guideline to consider for a 21:9 screen aspect ratio is a min. screen size of at least 120 inches (or 10 ft) diagonally for a satisfying and immersive experience. A screen of this height and length is important to maximise the provided wider field of view of the 21:9 aspect ratio, which is especially advantageous for accurately replicating the horizontal expanse of a golf course. To effectively simulate the golf course material, including terrain, obstacles, and distant views, a larger screen of this size becomes crucial. 4:3 Ratio — Recommended Minimum Size: 8' x 6' A 4:3 screen aspect ratio was more common in older size display or screen technologies but has become less prevalent with the shift to wide screen formats. For a 4:3 aspect ratio, a recommended minimum screen size for a golf simulator would be around 8 ft wide by 6 feet tall. This provides a balance between screen width and height, suitable for a variety of simulators. While it may not offer the same widescreen immersion as newer ratios, a larger 4:3 screen can still provide a satisfactory golfing experience. This aspect ratio size and screen width and height might be more suitable if you're working with limited space, a special launch monitor or simulator, or budget constraints. 16:10 Ratio — Recommended Minimum Size: 10' x 6.25' A 16:10 aspect ratio is a slightly more elongated wide screen format that was popular in some launch monitor screen technologies in the past. This aspect ratio gives you an immersive experience on your simulator with plenty of screen room to move around. A minimum screen length of 10 by 6.25 feet offers a decent compromise for both horizontal and vertical views of this specific screen aspect ratio. This screen size can provide a satisfying golf simulation experience, allowing for an accurate representation of the course while maintaining some vertical screen space for swing analysis and ball flight tracking. 16:9 Ratio — Recommended Minimum Size: 10' x 5.63' A 16:9 screen aspect ratio is the most common widescreen format used in modern launch monitor displays and TVs. This aspect ratio closely matches the proportions of most golf courses. Hence, it's a popular choice among every new simulator. For a 16:9 screen aspect ratio, a recommended minimum screen size for a golf simulator would be around 10 feet wide by 5.63 ft tall. This is often considered a standard screen size for many simulator setups. Take Note: These are general recommendations for minimum screen sizes based on aspect ratios commonly used in golf simulators. However, screen sizes can vary depending on individual preferences, the intended use of the simulator, and available space. It's important to ensure that the height and width of the screen provides an immersive golf experience while maintaining accurate golf shot tracking and visual realism. Factors to Consider Before Choosing Your Golf Impact Screens When selecting the ideal height and width of the impact screen for your golf simulator package, there are several considerations to think of. This helps ensure that you get the most out of your golf simulator screen and golf play experience. 1. Space and Room Measurements When selecting an impact screen for your golf simulator, space, ceiling, and distance measurements are hit factors to consider. A high-quality impact screen should accurately capture and display the distance your shots travel from your hitting mats. This screen feature is essential for honing your swing, adjusting club selection, and understanding your shot power, driver, and throw distance. Measure the ceiling, wall, and floor dimensions of the room where you plan to set up the golf simulator, screen, and launch monitor. The impact screen should fit comfortably within these space requirements without obstructing movement on your hitting mats or causing visual discomfort when you play. Consider both the width and ceiling height of the room to determine the minimum and maximum screen size that will work for your simulator. In fact, before selecting a screen size for your simulator, ensure you have a golf simulator room spacious enough for your golf equipment. 2. Player Comfort Player comfort is paramount during your time playing golf with your golf simulator screen. Choose an impact screen that allows you to stand at a comfortable distance from the screen while taking your shots. A screen that's too close can lead to cramped swings and reduced shot accuracy, while a screen that's too far can strain your eyes and disrupt the immersive experience. Opt for a screen length and width that offers ample room space for your hit and a viewing distance that lets you easily track your shots. An ideal screen size lets you enjoy the virtual golf environment through the screen without any physical discomfort. Pro Tip: For accurate gameplay and swing analysis, a recommended position distance is around 10-15 feet from the simulator screen. Consider the screen size that allows for a proper viewing distance and maximised golf impact within your available space. 3. Intended Use of Golf Screen Before making a decision, consider your intended use of the golf simulator impact screen. Are you a serious golfer looking to fine-tune your skills with the help of data displayed in the screen? Are you setting up the launch monitor and golf simulator screen for entertainment and casual play? Different impact screens cater to varying needs. For game use, a wide variety of screen aspect ratio works. But if you're going to use your golf simulator as a home theatre system too, then 16:9 is typically the recommended screen ratio. With this ratio comes a size that may be larger than the most basic screen measurements, too. At the same time, users have to consider where their seating areas can be located for viewers. Generally, for a dedicated system golf simulation usage, the height and width measurement of the screen will be larger as it has to cater for the full range of clubs, as well as left and right handed usage. Understanding your simulator screen goals and usage will help you shop for the right impact screen that aligns with your golfing aspirations. 4. Visual Realism and Immersive Experience of the Screen Visual realism and an immersive experience are central to the appeal of golf simulator screens. An impact screen that accurately reproduces the course graphics, terrain details, and environmental elements enhances the feeling of actually being on the golf course. Larger screens offer more vibrant colours, sharp imagery, and realistic representations of fairways, greens, and net hazards. This is because of the larger space regulated for these types of screens. Smaller screen sizes may not offer the kind of standard that their larger counterparts offer. But if you're looking for a budget-friendly golf screen option for casual play, this can be a good option. Shop according to your screen and visual preference. 5. Golf Swing Practice and Requirements Swing practice is a fundamental factor that impacts both your golf enjoyment and skill improvement with your simulator screen. It is also an essential factor to consider when choosing the right-sized screen for your golf simulator. Having said that, amateur players who are still practising their swing will need a wider swing angle and require a larger screen, as well as a larger playing area to accommodate their swing. This offers a huge impact to their learning curve and helps them visualize their hits on screen without going out to a real golf course. The larger screen is also important to catch stray balls that are more likely with amateur players. Your golf impact screens should rely on your swing requirements and skill levels. 6. Aspect Ratio on Projector Considering the screen aspect ratio on the golf simulator projector when choosing between sizes for golf simulator screen is crucial because it directly impacts the accuracy, realism, and overall quality of your simulation experience. Different screen aspect ratios can affect how accurately the virtual golf course is displayed and how well the projected images match the actual dimensions of a real golf course. An incompatible screen aspect ratio and screen size can lead to images that are either stretched or compressed, resulting in distorted graphics and a skewed center resolution that hinder your ability to judge distances and make accurate shots. For instance, if the screen aspect ratio is too narrow, fairways might appear narrower than they should be, affecting your perception of the course layout on your simulator system. Not only is this an unpleasant sight to see on your screen; it's also detrimental to your overall simulator experience. To maintain the visual integrity of the virtual environment, it's essential to select a screen with an aspect ratio that aligns with the golf content's intended posts and proportions. 7. Golf Simulator Software Compatibility with the Screen Different golf simulator software may have recommended screen dimensions for optimal performance. The software's graphical assets are often optimised for specific screen width, length, height and resolutions. Using a screen line size that is not recommended by the software can lead to distortion, pixelation, or other visual issues that compromise the realism and accuracy of the simulator. Moreover, putting and running the software on a screen for which it is not optimised could potentially lead to frame and performance issues, such as slower frame rates or unstable gameplay. This can detract from the overall golf experience and frustrate users and potentially damage your screen in the long run. Check with the software manufacturer to ensure your chosen size for your screen aligns with their recommendations. Your golf simulator screen may also come with a manual, so it's best to check that out, too. Seek Professional Advice for Indoor Golf Screen Size Choices The ideal size of a golf simulator screen depends on your specific playing needs and the size of your golf simulator setup. To make sure you're getting the most out of your golf investment, it's best to consult with experienced golf shop professionals to discuss all the available options on your screen buying guides and other screen resources and material. They can provide valuable insights and reviews into the different features offered by impact screens and recommend a suitable screen solution that fits your budget, room, and other factor constraints. You can also learn a thing or two about golf screen material, golf screen projector details, and other related information. Conclusion To sum up the key center points in this article, let’s take a look at the recommended minimum golf simulator screen sizes for each aspect ratio: - 21:9 ratio : a minimum screen size of 10 feet diagonally - 4:3 ratio : a minimum size of 8’ x 6’ for the screen - 16:10 ratio : a minimum size of 10’ x 6.25’ for the screen - 16:10 ratio : a minimum size of 10’ x 5.63’ for the screen At the end of the day, selecting the right golf simulator screen size is a pivotal decision that can significantly impact your overall experience. The minimum screen height and width for a golf simulator is not merely a matter of dimensions; it's a choice that affects immersion, accuracy, and enjoyment. In this guide, we'll provide an overview of the popular table sizes for dual dining and pool tables, our recommended table picks, and the factors to consider when choosing the right size of pool table for your space and lifestyle. What Is the Popular Size of Pool Dining Tables for the Home? When it comes to choosing the size of your dining and pool table, the three most popular pool table options are 7-foot tables, 8-foot tables, and customizable pool table sizes. Both pool table sizes have their unique advantages, and selecting the right cue or pool table depends on your preferences, available space, and intended use. Let's take a look at these below: 7-Foot Pool Tables 7-foot home pool tables can comfortably fit four or six people. These pool tables provide ample space for playing pool but still allow enough room for the players to move around the table. This size of a cue table is also great for small social gatherings, as you won’t need to stretch out your arms just to reach the other end pf the table. When used as a table for dining, it provides enough seating space for a small group of people to enjoy meals together comfortably. Advantages of 7-Foot Tables Space-Saving Design: 7-foot pool tables are relatively compact compared to larger sizes, making them an ideal choice for homes with limited space. They fit well in smaller rooms or apartments, allowing you to enjoy both dining and pool gaming without sacrificing too much space for your table. Suitable for Casual and Family Play: 7-foot tables are well-suited for casual and family pool play. These pool tables are often chosen by beginners, children, and recreational pool and cue players who may find a larger pool table overwhelming for friendly pool rounds. Cost-Effective: In comparison to larger pool tables, 7-foot tables are generally more affordable. These pool tables can be a budget-friendly table option for those who want to have a dual-purpose pool table without creating a huge dent in their wallet. Considerations of 7-Foot Tables Opt for English-Style Pool Tables: These pool tables are the tournament standard in the UK. Players generally opt for English-style pool tables if they’re going for a 7-foot table to accommodate their space. Smaller Balls: 7-foot tables require smaller balls. For clients who prefer the larger balls (or the American cue balls) to go with their pool tables, they can opt for a 7.5-foot table, or occasionally simply termed as a 7-foot American table. These are a bit larger than the usual pool table.  Our Recommended Pick: Ashbury Our English-style Ashbury pool dining tables are an excellent choice for those who'd like smaller pool dining tables for their home space. This compact pool table is the height of excellence with its hidden ball return system, sleek style, and thin cabinetry profile. And best of all, this pool table comes with  premium quality and an affordable price tag for pool playing! Bonus Feature: The Ashbury pool table features a naturally-durable Monobloc slate playfield, ideal for a consistent pool table gameplay experience.   8-Foot Pool Tables 8-foot pool tables can accommodate up to eight people. Advantages of 8-Foot Tables Accommodates Skilled Players: Serious and experienced pool players often prefer 8-foot tables due to their standard pool table size in professional tournaments. Playing on an 8-foot table can help players visualize what professional pool tables may look like in competitive play. Suitable for Group Play: 8-foot tables comfortably accommodate more players in group play, making them an excellent choice for social gatherings, parties, and pool tournaments. These pool tables offer enough space for multiple players to participate in a game of pool without feeling crowded. Versatility in Gameplay: The larger size of the pool table provides ample room for various billiards games, including 8-ball, 9-ball, and snooker. This versatility in a pool table allows players to enjoy a wide range of gaming experiences on a single table. Considerations of 8-Foot Tables: Difficulty of Game: Beginners and less experienced players might find the larger 8-foot table challenging to play on, especially if they’ve grown accustomed to a smaller table.  Cost: Larger pool tables, such as the 8-foot size tables, tend to be more expensive than smaller pool table options. The cost can be a limiting factor for those on a tight budget for their pool table purchases. Our Recommended Pick: Billards Montfort Lewis Combining French craftsmanship and the traditional duality of both pool and dining tables, Billards Montfort is the best choice for 8-foot pool dining tables. Whether you prefer a friendly game of pool or a round of professional games, this pool table can accommodate your pool needs. More importantly, its stylistic stained and painted pool table finishes make these tables a worthwhile furniture investment in the pool hall or dining room. Area and Space Availability for Your Pool Table When selecting the ideal table size for your room or home, whether pool, football tables, or snooker tables, you should consider how much space is available in the area where you plan to place your pool table. It can also mean the room size if you're only allocating your pool table for a single room. Measure the length and width of the room to make sure that it can accommodate a pool and dining table of your desired size and dimensions. For a 7-foot size pool table, you generally need a minimum of 16 feet by 13 feet of room size to ensure comfortable gameplay and proper cueing room around the table. This also accommodates pool table benches and chairs. For a room size that exceed this, you can opt for the 8-foot pool table size. This room size measurement includes accounting for the quality and dimensions of the pool table itself -- including the pool table width, top pool table length, and the table's dimensions -- and the clearance needed for players to move around and take pool shots without obstruction. 2. Intended Use for Your Pool Table Consider how you plan to use your pool table. The quality of the pool table relies on this information, as well as the size. A word of advice? If you’re looking for a model that will be used mostly for pool games, then a 7-foot size pool table would be the perfect choice for playing pool. But if you intend to use it as a regular dining table on the regular as well, then larger sizes such as 8-foot tables (or probably even 9-foot tables) would be more suitable. 3. Budget Range Budget is always an important factor to consider when it comes to purchasing any game item for your home, including a pool dining table and even pong tables antique or modern. There are many options available for tables in different sizes that range from affordable to high-end models. Consider your budget and stick to it while considering the features and design of the pool dining table you choose to save your efforts. You may also want to look into customizing your own pool dining table to get the perfect size that suits your space and budget. But keep in mind that with your customization choices, including choosing between wool cloth or speed cloth for your pool table cloth surface, you can also expect a rise in the price range. 4. Number of Players Using the Table When choosing the size for your pool dining table, it is important to consider the number of players or family members using it. Generally, 7-foot table size can accommodate up to 8 players, while 8-foot tables can accommodate up to 10 ideally. So, if you plan to use your pool table to host competitive games with a large number of players, then an 8-foot pool table would be the best choice. But if you’re looking for a pool table model that is suitable for small and casual gatherings, then a 7-foot tables would be more suitable. 5. Pool Style: American vs English American billiard tables are considered larger than English tables by size. At the same time, American pool tables make use of larger cue balls, typically measuring 2 1/4 inches (57.15 mm/5.7 cm) in diameter. English cue balls, on another note, are 2 inch in size (50.8 mm/5.08 cm). If you’re eyeing English-style bespoke pool tables, you can expect smaller size pool tables (7-foot tables), and this is the same way with American pool tables with a general size of 8-foot and 9-foot pool tables. Pool Table: The Final Delivery A pool dining table is a versatile piece of furniture that combines the thrill of playing cue or pool with the practicality of a dining table. It is the perfect table addition to any home, providing endless hours of entertainment for family and friends. This is why choosing the right size for your pool table is an important decision. Not only does this affect your pool playing and dining use, but it also impacts your space and lifestyle throughout the years. When it comes to home use, 7-foot and 8-foot pool tables are the most popular pool size tables, but you can also choose to customise your pool dining table's size before buying to accommodate your billiards and dining needs. If you are considering a dual-purpose pool table for your home, be sure to also check out our article where we go in-detail the type of pool tables that can be used as a dining table.

A Closer Look Into Indoor Golf: How Golf Simulators Work

Indoor golf is becoming increasingly popular as technology advances and more people pursue the sport from the comfort of their homes. With the help of golf simulators, players can now enjoy a realistic experience without having to leave their homes. In this article, let's dive deep into the inner and outer workings of how golf simulators work--from its process to its measurements and other features. In no time, you'll be ready for the virtual green. Are you up for the challenge? How a Golf Simulator Works: A Step-by-Step Guide At this point, you may be asking yourself: how do golf simulators work? How does its technology work to produce a realistic golf experience? To fully understand how this state-of-the-art technology processes gameplay, let's first take a look at its components. Golf Simulators Components To put it simply, golf simulators work as a unit. It's composed of a variety of components working together for the ultimate realistic golf experience even while staying indoors. Some of the common components of golf simulators include: Computer and Simulation Software The computer--and its simulation software--is the brain of a golf simulator. It runs the simulation software that processes the data from the launch monitor and club sensors, calculates the ball's flight and other parameters, and renders the virtual environment on the screen. Launch Monitor If the computer is the brain of the golf simulator, the launch monitor is the hearts. These are devices equipped with high-speed cameras, infrared sensors, laser technology, or a combination of these to accurately track the golf ball's flight. These monitors also provide essential data, like launch angle, spin rate, ball speed, carry distance, and more. Pro Recommendation: QED has some of the best launch monitors in existence. They're worth checking out if you're on the market for newer and more advanced launch monitors to include in your golf setup. In fact, in actual tests done by QED professionals, golf gameplay data in QED simulators is often only 1% varied from the actual flight of the ball when measured in person. Talk about top industry leading accuracy! Unlike household names like Foresight and Trackman, QED simulators are also the leading simulators in the industry for their adaptability to home and club use and fitted for coaches, club fitters, and players of all ages. Impact Screen or Projection Surface This is a large, high-quality screen or projection surface that displays the virtual golf course or driving range. The golfer positions on the mats and hits the ball into this screen, and the simulator uses the data from the launch monitor and club sensors to create a virtual representation of the shot on the screen. Sensors Sensors are used to track more than just the ball's flight. Some simulators have sensors that track club head data, such as club speed, club path, and clubface angle. This allows for a more realistic golf experience by providing feedback on your golf swing mechanics. These are only some of the primary components present in every golf simulator. Other golf simulator parts include hitting mats, golf balls, storage details, curtains, and more. Input The input of a golf simulator is what sets it apart from other simulation systems. During the golfer setup, the player works on adjusting the tee and hitting the ball. The launch monitor's radar or laser technology then collects data about the ball's flight and club head, which is then sent to the computer. This data includes information on launch angle, spin rate, ball speed, carry distance, and more. Advanced sensors can also track club head data such as club speed, club path, and clubface angle. Data Process and Analysis The data collected by the launch monitor is then sent to the computer, which processes it with the help of simulation software. This software calculates ball flight using a variety of algorithms, taking into account factors like wind speed and direction, as well as the terrain of the virtual environment. The software also renders the virtual environment on the impact screen or projection surface. Output The output of a golf simulator is where the magic of a realistic golf experience happens. The data collected by all the components of the simulator is used to accurately simulate the ball's flight. This allows players to practise their swing in a virtual environment with real-time feedback on their performance. Tracking Work and Sensor Technology: A Comparison on Simulators Tracking and sensor technology remains a vital part of golf simulator technology. Here are some of the common sensor technology types you may expect for your golf simulator. Photometric Photometric sensors in a golf simulator use light to measure the performance of golf shots. These sensors are placed around the impact screen or projection surface and detect how much light reflects off the ball at different points during its flight. Photometric sensors are highly accurate and provide a reliable source of data for golf simulators. Radar Radar technology uses an array of radar antennas to detect the ball's movement and calculate its flight path. The data collected by the sensors is then processed to create a realistic simulation of the ball's flight, taking into account factors such as spin rate, launch angle, and speed. Optical Optical sensors are also used in golf simulators, although they generally provide less accurate results than radar technology. These light-based sensors require a clear line of sight between the cameras and the golf ball, so it's essential to ensure proper setup and calibration for accurate tracking. Optical sensors typically have a shorter range than radar technology and may not be able to accurately detect the ball's launch angle or spin rate. Infrared Infrared technology is another type of tracking and sensor technology used in golf simulation. This technology uses infrared light to track the trajectory of the golf balls and your golf swing, as it moves through the virtual environment. The sensors detect the ball's movement and send this date to the computer for analysis. This type of tracking is especially useful in simulators where lighting conditions may be less than ideal.   The Golf Simulators Work on Parameters and Measurements on Ball Flight The parameters measured by golf simulators during the process of the gameplay include the distance, spin, launch angle, and speed. Calculating Distance Known as: the total distance a shot travels with its initial trajectory The ball distance is one of the most important measurements taken by golf simulators. The launch monitor collects data on a ball's initial trajectory from the mats to accurately measure the total distance it travels. This calculation is based on factors such as launch angle, spin rate, and clubhead speed. By analyzing a large amount of data produced from your golf shot combined with wind speed and direction, you can get an accurate simulation of the ball's flight on your golf simulator. Calculating Spin Known as: the rate at which the golf ball rotates around its own axis during its flight The spin rate is an important factor in the accuracy of golf simulator technology. Golf simulators measure the spin rate of balls in RPMs, which stands for revolutions per minute. The spin can come in two forms: backspin and sidespin; both are vital to making accurate swing systems and adjustments and improving ball control. Calculating Angle of Launch Known as: the angle at which the golf ball leaves the club face The launch angle is one of the most important factors in determining how far a shot will travel. Golf simulators use data from the launch monitor and sensors to accurately calculate this angle. Generally, a higher launch angle generally results in a higher ball flight with more carry distance, while a lower launch angle produces a lower ball flight with more roll upon landing. Calculating Speed Known as: the speed of the ball at impact.  There are two kinds of speed measured during golf gameplay: Ball Speed: Ball speed refers to the initial velocity of the golf ball as it leaves the clubface at impact. It is typically measured in miles per hour (mph) or kilometers per hour (km/h). Ball data speed is an essential factor in determining how far the balls will travel, and it is influenced by factors such as the golfer's swing speed, the quality of impact, and the characteristics of the golf club. Club Head Speed: Club head speed is the speed at which the golf club head is moving just before impact with the golf ball. It is also measured in miles per hour (mph) or kilometers per hour (km/h). Club head speed is a crucial factor in generating ball speed and, consequently, in achieving longer shots. Golfers with higher club head speeds typically have the potential to hit the balls farther with the golf simulator. Other Features of Golf Simulators Aside from the usual main components of the golf simulator, like the monitors, sensors, and simulation software, you may also have to be on the lookout for other additional features that some golf simulators provide. Though they are not present in all golf simulators, they are nice-to-have features that offer just a step up to your usual gameplay experience. Golf Course Selection A golf simulator offers varied select options for a variety of virtual golf courses from around the world. This gives golfers the opportunity to hit the balls on famous and challenging courses they might not have access to in real life. Multiplayer and Social Features Many golf simulators support multiplayer functionality, allowing golfers to play against friends or other players online. This adds a social and competitive aspect to the indoor golf experience. Virtual Reality (VR) Integration High-end simulators work with and incorporate virtual reality technology to create an even more immersive experience. VR allows golfers to feel like they are physically present on the virtual golf course through a first-person perspective. Skill Challenges and Games Some simulators come with fun mini-games and skill challenges. These can include target practice, closest-to-the-pin contests, long-drive challenges, and more. Other Customization Options Some simulators allow golfers to customize the virtual environment and gameplay settings. Players may be able to adjust weather conditions, wind speed, direction, time of day, tee box positions, and other factors to create different challenges on their golf simulator.   Golf Simulators: A Golf Training and Learning Tool A golf simulator works tremendously for your golf training and offers more than just a fun way to practice your impromptu golf game. Used as a powerful learning tool, they give golfers immediate feedback on their range and swing mechanics and providing an effective way to improve their game. By tracking data, such as launch angle, spin rate, ball speed, and carry distance, players can quickly identify areas of improvement and work on their weaknesses. With so many types of golf simulators and similar products to choose from, the sky's the limit with your options—from budget-friendly options for smaller spaces to high-end brands like Optishot that offer professional level data and analytics. The size of the room you wish your golf simulator to occupy also plays a role in the overall cost of the golf equipment. If you’re looking to set up your simulator in a large room, the rates will be considerably higher than if you are looking to set it up in a smaller space or room. Additionally, the quality of components used in your simulator can also have an impact on cost. For example, a higher-end golf simulator typically uses more expensive component options, such as 4K resolution monitor screens, more powerful computers, and more accurate sensors, and thus, costing more money. Golf Simulator Types (and Their Price Range) It's no question that different types of golf simulators offer different cost ranges. With the above information in mind, let's guide you into the many different types of golf simulators available in the market today: Basic or Entry-Level Golf Simulators Prices Range from: $2000-$8,000 Best For: Beginner players with limited spaces A basic or entry-level golf simulator is great for those who are just starting with the game, or for those who are looking to practice their swing without costing a lot of money. This simulator typically include a net enclosure, a hitting mat, an entry level launch monitors, which are typically quite limited in the accuracy of its data. Aside from being budget-friendly, this type of home golf setup helps save on space. So, this is an ideal choice for homes with limited spaces for a games room or rented apartments and condos that don't have allocated space for a large-scale golf simulator. Such a simulator usually does not contain fixed fixtures, such as acoustic panels, artificial grass turf and so on. Mid-Range Golf Simulators Price Range: $10,000-$20,000 Best For: Intermediate players who prefer to stay on a reasonable budget A mid-level golf simulator strike a balance between affordability and enhanced features, appealing to players and businesses looking for a more realistic and enjoyable golfing experience without the high price tag of top-tier golf simulators. These simulators usually include a golf enclosure with a basic impact screen, projector, and higher-end launch monitors and components, such as more advanced sensors to track data and analyze shot accuracy. The Uneekor EYEXO2, which was just released in 2023, takes it further than the mentioned competition. Choosing What Works for You: The Types of Dining Pool Tables When it comes to choosing the perfect pool dining table for your home, there are many options for you. Let us guide you on the most common types of pool dining tables are the following: Slated Pool Dining Table Pool dining tables are built by reliable makers. They utilize a pool slate as the playfield material. A slated pool dining table specializes in proper play and performance. But it is heavy and cannot be moved easily. Slated pool tables are typically built with different materials like solid oak, beech, ash, or even compressed wood, like MDF and Plywood. Remember, different materials offer different benefits. Laminated Wood Slated Pool Dining Table These tables usually feature standard finishes. Moreover, they utilize laminates or veneers to finish the exterior of the table. They are more cost-effective while providing a very good price point for a pool dining table. Budget Wood-Bedded Pool Dining Tables Usually the cheapest and utilizes compressed wood in its playfield, budget wood bedded pool dining tables are not meant for a proper game of pool. They are not suitable for serious dining as they are prone to liquid damage. This is mainly due to the fact that the material used in construction is MDF, a material that sponges liquid easily. Outdoor Pool Dining Tables Who says you can't experience beach dining and play while enjoying the feel of sand and the beauty of outdoor views? If you have an outdoor living space, outdoor pool dining tables can offer a level of sophistication to your regular table use. Designed to withstand the elements, these tables are made with weather-resistant materials. This ensures outdoor durability and longevity. Now, you can ensure a lovely time with your beach bucket and tons of beach water after playing pool with the family. Customizable Designer Pool Dining Table These high-end pool dining table types look more like furniture and less like pool tables. Usually featuring interesting cabinet and leg designs, these tables also offer a quality playing experience. They are typically designed to fit into any home beautifully, but they can be costly. Features to Look for When Buying These Convertible Tables After you've decided on the type of dining pool table you'd like to go for, it's time to keep an eye out for the tiny details. When shopping for the perfect pool dining table, there are certain features to consider. Refer to the following to guide get you started: Table Size and Occupying Space Size is an important consideration when selecting a pool dining table. Make sure the size of your table fits in the space you have available and allows enough room for people to comfortably move around and enjoy a meal or game of pool. It's best to consider how many players will be using the table top at one time and whether it will need to accommodate any additional seating. So, take size measurements for accurate results. Generally, pool dining tables have height dimensions that range between the standard heights of a regular dining table and a pool table. Be sure to test separate chair heights when purchasing your pool dining table for your room, as the heights of these pieces of furniture, as well as benches, may vary from store to store. Pro Tip: 5 Feet from All Sides Keep a minimum of about 5 feet from your measured space to the wall or any other furniture, like your bed, within the room. This typically ensures an ideal space around your chosen dual-purpose dining table, enough for players to angle their hits and enough for family meal time to be spacious and enjoyable. Pool Table Materials, Finish, and Additional Features The materials used for your pool tables can determine how long they will last and their overall aesthetic. Each material has its own advantages and disadvantages, so choose one that suits your style and lifestyle the best. 1. Wood Wood is a popular material for pool dining tables as it exudes warmth and sophistication. It is available in a variety of finishes from classic mahogany to modern oak, which can add character to any room. Wood is also durable and easy to maintain, which can come in handy if you've got little to no time for thorough cleaning sessions. Be sure to look out for signs of damage or warping before purchasing your wood pool dining table to ensure that it will last for years to come. 2. Iron, Stainless Steel (Inox) Iron and stainless steel pool dining tables are becoming increasingly popular due to their incredible material. These are usually finished in a variety of solid colors, so you’ll be sure to find one that matches your aesthetic perfectly. 3. Glass Glass is another type of material used for a billiard table top. Though it offers a sophisticated look to your usual multi-purpose table top, one of its downsides is its need for regular cleaning because of its tendency to stain and get marked easily. Glass can also easily scratch or chip. It is not a recommended option for homes with young children with their hard toys and excited pets. 4. MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) MDF is an engineered wood product made from wood fibers and resin, which is compressed to form a dense and sturdy board. It is less expensive than solid wood but it can be a bad investment for your table in the long run because its surface can warp over time, affecting pool performance. MDF can be covered with a laminate or veneer to enhance its appearance. Table Finish In addition to this, consider the table's finish. A glossy finish can give your table a modern and sophisticated look, while a matte finish will make it appear more traditional. Some pool dining tables also feature decorative stainless squares and glass see-through table covers. Pro tip: Furniture Protectant/Wax Glossy finishes scratch easily, but they appear beautiful to the sight. If you want to protect the paint on your glossy table, make sure to install clear sheets or utilize a quality furniture protectant/wax. Additional Features for Table Finishes Some pool dining tables also feature customizable pool covers. These may come in the form of decorative stainless squares and glass see-through table covers. For some of our luxury makers, you can even choose to have a contrast finish for the table covers, which gives a really sophisticated finish.  Quality of the Playing Surface The quality of the playing surface is an important factor when selecting a pool dining table top. The playing surface should be smooth and level to ensure that the balls roll properly and accurately. Consider pool tables with high-quality slate surfaces, as these are known for their superior durability and performance. We can't emphasise how important it is for a pool table to play flat, and the slate is the only material that provides an even playing surface in the billiard industry. Slated surfaces also possess an additional benefit, where it is possible for you to replace the cloth. This is an underestimated aspect of maintaining a pool table, and is important if you plan on using your table for decades.  Pro Tip: 3-Piece vs 1-Piece Slate Setup The three-piece setup is the more traditional configuration for pool tables and consists of three individual pieces of slate placed together to create a single playing surface. This is generally more flexible when moving into a home. On another note, the one-piece slate is ideal if you want your pool tables to be lighter and easier to move. It also eliminates the need for labor-intensive leveling since there's only one piece of slate to worry about. One example of this is the Ashbury Pool Dining table that we carry.  Cloth Quality If the playfield has a cloth-covered playing surface, pay attention to the quality of the cloth. High-quality pool table cloth made of wool and nylon blend provides better playability and durability than cheaper options. Cheaper cloth attracts burn marks easily, which will quickly ruin your pool table at home.  Type of Cue Balls and Accessories The type of cue balls and accessories you opt for will depend on your skill level and the type of games you play. To maximize your gaming experience, choose cue balls and accessories that are perfectly balanced and weighted. Aramith cue balls are best in this regard.  It is also important to select the right kind of cues to ensure accuracy when taking shots on your pool tables. If you're opting for an English Pool Dining table, then 9mm cue tips are recommended, while 13mm are recommended for use with the American game.  Drop Pockets vs Ball Return System Drop pockets and a Ball Return System are two of the most popular types of pocket designs for pool tables. Choosing between the two not only changes your playing experience but also changes the pricing range when you're shopping for one. Drop pockets are a classic choice for billiards and pool tables as they feature a traditional look and are low-maintenance. These pockets come with either metal or wooden frames and feature an open-ended design, which allows balls to easily drop in when pocketed. The ball return system, on the other hand, offers a more convenient mechanism for returning balls to the table after pocketing them. This option is typically more costly than a drop pocket, as there are additional materials involved.  Both types of pockets provide a great playing experience for pool tables, so it’s up to you to choose which one best fits your needs. Design and Aesthetic of Pool Tables The design and aesthetic of your dining pool tables will depend largely on the style of your room and home. Whether you're looking for tables that match your existing decor or opting for a more unique and contemporary design, the choice is up to you. Additionally, the color of the table’s finish plays a huge role in complementing the overall room and atmosphere. Neutral colors such as black or white will blend in with most decor, while bolder colors like red or blue can make a statement within the room space. Price and Budget The price of your pool dining table will depend on the material, size, and features you select. Generally speaking, tables made from wood or metal will be more affordable than those made from glass. Additionally, adjustable legs and other features may add to the cost of the table. Typically, for budget wood-bedded tables, you can expect to pay around $1,000 to $2,000. For entry-slated tables, the price goes from $3,000 to about $5,000. And for more luxurious brand options such as designer slated tables, anticipate to go as high as $8,000, maybe even more. So, consider your budget and choose a table that is within your price budget. If you're still not entirely sure about what pool dining table to go for, talk with your local dealer, supplier, or a professional. And don't be afraid to ask questions beyond the transaction level to ensure you are making the right buying decisions. The Best of Both Worlds: Pool Dining Tables Pool dining tables seamlessly combine the fun of playing pool and similar games with the convenience of having a place to enjoy food and conversation. This is suitable whether inside or in an outdoor setting. This is why it's an ideal choice for homes with limited indoor spaces and budget restraints. And ultimately, it's also why choosing the perfect pool dining table for your home is vital. You're not only potentially investing in your future billiard table, but you're dining table too. So, think wisely before making any purchases. Conclusion Pool dining tables, just like any gaming table like shuffleboard and football tables, come with so many different types, sizes, accessories, and features. With so many choices, one might be tempted to forgo a purchase. Nothing beats the charisma and entertainment factor of a good mahjong table at home. Whether you choose to engage in a friendly game of mahjong with a couple of peers or host a mini mahjong tournament during tournaments, knowing the minimum size for mahjong tables can help you curate the right one for your home, the players using it, and your playing preferences.   In this article, let's explore the smallest possible size of mahjong tables you can get for your home.   Table Roundup: Types and Minimum Dimensions of Mahjong Tables Not all mahjong table setups have the same recommended sizes and dimensions. This also means all the versions of mahjong table will have a different set of dimensions for its smallest size. Other factors to consider include the number of tiles used for play, the number of players typically playing, and the size of the mahjong tiles itself.   Let's understand the minimum size differences between a few of the most common mahjong table types you can find in the market.   1. Standard Mahjong Table These mahjong tables are designed to accommodate up to four players, with each one having their own space to freely shuffle and move around their tiles as the game progresses. Typically square in shape, these tables are the ones you might have already seen and normally associate with mahjong. However, with recent modifications, you might even get to see some rectangular shapes rise in popularity among these mahjong tables.   These tables usually have a felt-covered tabletop for a noise-reducing and seamless tile playing experience. With modern technology, some of these mahjong tables may also come with built-in features like drawers, upgraded shuffling mechanisms, and even drink holders.   There are two kinds of standard mahjong tables: the traditional ones originating from Chinese culture and the Western-conforming mahjong tables.   a. Traditional Chinese Mahjong Table Minimum Size: 28 x 28 inches (71 cm) Unique Features: Ornate wood carvings reminiscent to Chinese Culture   Traditional Chinese Mahjong Tables are the original mahjong tables that originated in China and have been in use since ancient times. These tables, often called "mahjong pai", feature a square shape with four sides. Most of these tables are composed from wood and specialize in ornate and intricate wood carvings around its table legs, corners, and oven its tabletop surface.   The smallest recommended size for traditional Chinese mahjong is 28 inches in both length and width. This gives players ample space to be comfortable while playing. These tables are usually smaller in length and width and smaller in height than its Western-style counterpart.   b. Western-Style Mahjong Table Minimum Size: 31 x 31 inches (79 cm) Unique Features: Simplistic design with above average game assistance   Western-style mahjong tables are designed to accommodate more players than traditional Chinese tables. These rectangular-shaped tables feature four sides and are usually composed of wood or synthetic materials like fiberglass.   Its smallest suitable size is about 31 inches in both length and width. This is slightly larger than its traditional counterpart because of the number of tiles used in the game. The American Mahjong includes about 166 tiles, while the traditional one only plays around with 144 tiles. These extra tiles can make it hard to play around a table with a size similar to the Chinese mahjong table.   Additionally, unlike traditional Chinese mahjong tables, Western-style tables may not have integrated drawers or racks for storing the tiles. Instead, players often use separate tile racks or trays to hold and organize their tiles during gameplay.   But one of the features that keep these four-player mahjong tables a cut above the rest is its high sense of portability and game assistance. Some even have built-in markings or grids to assist players in organizing their tiles or keeping track of scoring.   2. Octagonal Mahjong Table Minimum Size: 34 x 34 inches (86 cm) Unique Features: Eight-player game setup   Octagonal mahjong tables are one of the stylized innovations of the mahjong industry. As the name suggests, these tables have an octagonal shape, with eight sides and a central playing area where the tiles can be placed or moved around.   These mahjong tables are often made of wood and feature a sturdy construction. They typically have a folding or collapsible design, allowing for easy storage and transportation.   Because of their unique design and multiple player capacity (than usual), these mahjong tables have a recommended minimum size of about 86 inches across all it corners. This size allows players to sit comfortably around the table, providing a balanced and accessible playing experience.   3. Automatic Mahjong Table Minimum Size: 36 x 36 inches (91 cm) Unique Features: Enhanced gameplay due to mechanical systems   Paving way to modern technology, automatic mahjong machines get the right end of the stick for its electrical features and high-standard board. Also known as electronic mahjong table or electric mahjong table, the automatic mahjong table is specialized tables that automate certain aspects of playing mahjong. They come equipped with mechanical systems that handle tasks such as shuffling, dealing, and organizing the mahjong tiles, reducing the manual labor required during gameplay.   Shuffling, tile storage, and tile organization are only some of the automatic mahjong table's heightened features. This eliminates the need for a designated human shuffler and dealer and reduces the chances of human error during gameplay, as well as a more comfortable play experience.   Due to the mechanisms of the automatic mahjong table, the recommended smallest size for this table is about 36 inches in both length and width. This is equivalent to 91 centimeters. This measurement is just enough for players to play freely without comprising the built-in mechanical characteristics that come with these tables.   The only real fear automatic mahjong table owners have is the possibility of it getting stuck. But we got you! Should you find yourself in this predicament, check out the ways you can troubleshoot a stuck automatic mahjong table.   We also have another insightful article on maintaining an automatic mahjong table that might help you in the long run.   4. Foldable Mahjong Table Minimum Size: 30 x 30 inches (76 cm) Unique Features: Portability and quick setup for automatic play anytime, anywhere   Ranking high in portability when it comes to playing mahjong is the foldable mahjong table. These high-end tables can be easily folded and unfolded for convenient storage and transportation. These tables are popular among mahjong players who have limited space or frequently play in different locations.   Some of its key features are its folding design--which makes it easy to store it in cramped and narrow spaces and even transportation vehicles, its sturdy construction that comes with a secure locking mechanism, and its portability. They can be easily transported to different locations, such as friends' houses or mahjong gatherings, so playing mahjong is as handy as playing games on your phone.   At a minimum size of 30 x 30 inches, this specific type of mahjong machine is already at its maximized potential. This means it's ready for players whenever and wherever.   5. DIY Mahjong Table Minimum Size: 31 x 31 inches (79 cm) Unique Features: Customization capabilities for player and space preferences   DIY (Do-It-Yourself) mahjong tables are tables that are created by individuals themselves rather than being purchased pre-made. These tables are typically handmade and customized according to personal preferences, allowing for creative expression and affordability.   From materials and construction techniques to personalized additional features like cup holders and scorekeeping mechanisms, the sky's the limit with these tables.   Despite your freedom to play by your own rules when customizing your mahjong table, these tables still come with a minimum size requirement of 31 inches in all sides. Granted you will be using your own materials and finishes, this is the appropriate size to go bold or go bland with your design and construction. This is just enough for both gameplay and creative expression.   A Side Note While these tables are the well-known variations of mahjong tables available worldwide, you might find more versions specifically catered to a different culture or region. Mahjong is an ever-evolving sport that continues to capture the hearts of many audiences from across all age groups, so it's more common than not to find a specific type of mahjong that only your city sells.   In this case, talk to a designated professional on sizing, surface dimensions, and other features to keep your mahjong gameplay experience up to the max.   Size Matters: Choosing the Best Mahjong Table Surface Dimensions for Your Play Just like any piece of furniture like your rattan bed or your coffee table, determining the best size to get when purchasing a mahjong table at a reasonable price is essential for comfort, aesthetics, and of course, playability. These factors not only enhance your gameplay but also allows your personality to shine with your own mahjong table.   Keeping It Comfortable The size of the table directly affects the playing experience and comfort of the players. A table that is too small may not provide enough space for players to comfortably arrange and manipulate their tiles, leading to overcrowding or difficulty in gameplay. Conversely, a table that is too large may make it challenging for players to reach across the table or see the tiles clearly.   Finding the right size ensures a comfortable and enjoyable time for all players to play mahjong.   Keeping It Stylish With regards to home spaces, the mahjong table's size should also be in tune with the spot it occupies. This is why considering the available space in your home or gaming area is essential to ensure the table fits appropriately. A mahjong table that is too large for the room may dominate the space and feel overwhelming. On the other hand, a table that is too small might get lost in the room or appear disproportionate to other furniture pieces, like your upheld rattan mirror and sofa bed. Aim for table dimensions that complements the scale and style of the room.   In addition to size, consider the shape of the table that best suits your home aesthetic. Rectangular or square tables may provide a more formal or classic look, while octagonal tables can add a touch of uniqueness.   Remember, the mahjong table should not only serve its functional purpose but also enhance the aesthetic appeal of your home. This is why it's vital to take into account the size, proportions, and overall design aesthetic of the room to select a mahjong table size that fits seamlessly within your home decor.   Keeping It Playable Number of Players The size of the mahjong table should also be suitable for the number of players involved in the game. Different mahjong variants can be played with different numbers of players, ranging from two to four or more. Having a table and surface size that accommodates the specific number of players ensures everyone has enough space to play comfortably and place their tiles without crowding the table.   Tile Organization The table should provide ample space for each player to arrange their tiles and have their own designated area. Tiles should be able to fit without overlapping, making it easier to view and access the tiles during gameplay.   Game Accessories You should also take into account the space required for additional mahjong accessories, such as racks, dice, and scorecards. Ensure that the table size allows for the convenient placement of these accessories without cluttering the playing area.   Final Words When it comes to choosing the right size for your mahjong table and board, comfort, aesthetics, and playability are all key factors that should be taken into consideration. Investing in a mahjong table that comes at a reasonable offer price and fits your space, style, and number of players will ensure an enjoyable gaming experience for everyone involved.   Keep in mind the minimum sizes per each type of mahjong table and the various tips discussed above when selecting the best size for your mahjong table.   Feeling inspired by this article? Pool Table Size Guide: Pool Table Dimensions & Sizes

Choosing the correct pool table is a challenging, as you need to consider the size of your space and make precise calculations based off it. It’s not enough that the pool table fits. You also need adequate space from all sides to play properly. Ideally, you also need to make room for a cue rack or cabinet. The good news is that pool tables come in various sizes, accommodating limited spaces and professional halls alike. Pool table sizes varies and different sizes come with unique characteristics that lend to different gameplay dynamics. Pool tables typically ranges from six to nine feet long, catering to different spaces at home. Whether you’re looking for recreational entertainment or competitive gameplay, this guide will help you find the perfect size of pool table that caters to your preferences and skill level.   Note: The below article applies to slated-bed tables, and may not be representative of wood-bedded pool tables in the market. Please read this article if you'd like to learn about the differences.  Different Pool Table Sizes & Room Dimensions 6 FT UK Pool English Pool Pockets  This is the smallest pool table size, averaging 6 feet in length and 3.5 feet in width. This space-saving pool table is perfect for tight recreational spaces, allowing casual players to bring the fun of billiards right into their own homes. It’s also a popular option for entertainment venues with smaller spaces. As an authentic UK pool table size, such pool tables are often a common sight in bars across Britain. The 6 FT English pool table configuration features a napped woollen cloth, a slower table cloth that encourages shot accuracy over speed and power. In addition, smaller rounded pockets are used in tandem with 50mm balls - smaller than the 57.2mm American balls. Finally, the shorter playfield makes it easier to score shots, which makes it more suitable for casual players who are looking for a smaller pool table due to limited room at home.  If you've room only for a 6FT pool table, our genuine recommendation is to stick to a UK configuration as above. 7 FT UK Pool Ashbury English Pool - 7FT With an average size of 7 feet in length by 4 feet in widrth, this pool table balances size and gameplay difficulty. This pool is also called a bar-sized pool table, as you would find it in most bars and pubs all over the region. It’s also fitted with the more traditional woollen table cloth, and with official English Pool configurations as mentioned above.  The 7FT UK Pool table is also the standard size that the professional leagues in UK uses, attesting to the quality of play that you can expect from a pool table of this configuration. This is also a great option for intermediate players and enthusiasts who want to train on their cue skills, as a 7FT English game requires a lot precision as well as great cue ball control given the tighter playing field.  We recommend this size and specifications if you have the space maximum for a 7FT table, but yet want a proper, professional playing experience with a large lifespan for the ultimate playing experience.    7 FT American Pool Brunswick Allenton American Pool - 7FT A 7 FT American pool table has an average size of 7 feet in length by 3.5 feet in width, but note that this refers to the playing surface. This is contrary to its English counterpart, which refers to the overall size of the cabinet. As such, a 7 FT American pool table is slightly larger than a 7 FT UK model.  Apart from being more popular in the United States, an American pool table of this size also features larger pockets and balls. The balls in use here are 57.2mm as opposed to the 50mm balls used by their English cousins.  American pool tables primarily use a napless synthetic material, which is thinner. It’s also smoother, offering less resistance. Balls on this type of cloth roll faster, further and is why it's best suited to be played on a larger 8FT or 9Ft pool table ideally. Given the smaller sized tables with relatively larger pockets, the game can play fairly easy to the intermediate player. The 7FT American pool table is suited for a casual player with limited space but are looking for an American Pool experience.  8 FT American Pool Billard Montfort Safran American Pool - 8FT The 8 feet in length by 4 feet wide American pool table offers more playing surface, making it perfect for use in pool halls and competitive venues. This is the most popular size in commercial establishments and pool halls everywhere. It’s the perfect centerpiece in a recreational area where players can enjoy more challenging gameplay. As with all American Pool tables, they feature the speedy, napless synthetic cloth that provides a much faster playing experience when compared to the English pool tables.  The 8FT American is a very popular size for homes and general play, as the American game is more popular worldwide, and the 8FT provides a very decent challenge while fitting well in most homes. 9FT American Pool: Standard Pool Table Size Brunswick Gold Crown Tournament American Pool - 9FT The 9 feet by 4.5 feet measurement is considered the standard pool table size in professional tournaments. This size of table is played professionally whether you're playing 8-Ball or 9-Ball pool.  This regulation-size pool table offers a larger playing surface, which requires more skill and precision. This pool table is best suited for more advanced players. This is the perfect size for you if you’re looking to train competitively and practice advanced gameplay strategies. If you have space, we recommend this over the 8 FT pool table, even if you’re still practicing. With a larger pool table, the runway for players to develop the skills is longer, and mastering a 9FT pool table will mean that you will have no issue dominating smaller pool tables if you encounter them.  10 FT Carom Pool Table Credits: Gabriel's Carom Billiards - 10FT Carom pool tables come in various sizes, but the most common size is 10 feet in length and 5 feet wide. This type of pool table is designed specifically for Carom billiards, also known as French billiards. The pool game features three balls (one red, two white) played on a table without pockets.  The basic goal is that players must drive the cue ball into both object balls to score a point. If they fail to do so, they yield the next turn to the opponent. The game ends when a player has reached 50 points or another agreed-upon number. Carom billiards is a popular variation in Europe and Asia. It also comes in different types, such as straight rail and three-cushion carom.  This pool table typically uses cloth made from napless worsted wool. It provides a fast surface with little resistance for balls to roll much further, thereby highlighting the skill of a player in controlling the cue ball.  Given the unique dynamics of the Carom game, a 10ft table is really what we recommend for anybody who wishes to play this version of pool.  12 FT Snooker Table Snooker Table - 12FT A full-sized snooker table is 12 feet in length and 6 feet wide, which is the perfect size for tournaments. Smaller sizes, such as 9 FT or 10 FT, are also available though they are considered non-regulation.  The standard size provides a larger playing surface and longer shots for Snooker, a game with one cue ball, 15 red balls, and six colored balls. Snooker is a really challenging yet fun game for advanced players.  The napped woolen cloth from the English pool tables was originally found on snooker tables. Having this type of material, this game also requires a higher skill level for more precise gameplay.  If you're looking at a Snooker table for your establishment (or home), our recommended size is the 12FT size which plays the best. How Much Space for Cues? As a general rule of thumb, ensure that you have 1.5m/ 5ft of space all round the table to allow for a standard length cue. Having said that, it is very common for rooms with less space to opt for troubleshooter cues, which can come in at 3FT or 4FT. It is vital to ensure that you have sufficient cue space in order to have an enjoyable game of pool. Which Size of Pool Table Should You Choose? The perfect size for you depends on several factors, such as: • Personal Preference • Space Limitations • Skill Level Do you want to play casual matches against friends and family? Or are you aiming to be a professional player and compete in tournaments? Assess your needs and preferences before making a choice. Start by deciding the type of pool you enjoy, and then figure out the size that you need. How Does An Automatic Mahjong Table Works?

How Does An Automatic Mahjong Table Works? An automatic mahjong table is a modern and convenient way of playing the classic Chinese game. Designed to shuffle and stack the tiles for the players, it makes the game faster and easier. This type of table is becoming popular due to its efficiency and convenience, so players can now spend more time playing, and less time shuffling. In this article, we will seek to explain how these automatic mahjong tables actually works, so you too can have a better understand the mechanics of such a table. Each Auto Mahjong Table Operates With 2 Sets of Mahjong Tiles Each automatic mahjong table is equipped with two separate magnetic mahjong tiles set that are typically differentiated by the colour of tiles (For e.g. Green set and Blue set). Unlike the traditional Mahjong tiles, the automatic mahjong tile set features a thin slice of magnet that is integral to the shuffling process (more on that below). Both sets are in use at all time, and this is to facilitate continuous gameplay without interruption. As each game completes, it's set of tiles is swept into the shuffling mechanism and the standby set is immediately dispensed so players can play the next game instantaneously, with zero interruption. At this point, the machine will then be quietly shuffling the previous game's set of tiles and stacking them, preparing them in standby for the next round. The Shuffling Mechanism The heart of the Automatic Mahjong Table. The shuffling mechanism of an auto mahjong table is incredibly well designed and ingenious in application. With traditional shuffling, players often have to manually flip the tiles to face downwards, and then manually stack them into 18, 18 and 19, 19 walls. This manual process is both loud, noisy and time consuming in a traditional table - though players do attest to this aspect being core of a mahjong experience. With an automatic mahjong table however, tiles are first swept into the shuffling chamber beneath the UFO looking, flushed control panel plate. This is done by hand and it does not matter if the tiles are facing up or down. From there on, the tiles are shuffled by a rotating interior chamber with sweeping arms that ensure the tiles are shuffled cleanly and randomly. Next, tiles are fed to the four wall ramps (one on each side of the table, for each player) through a belt, magnet and sensor system. The belt ensures that the tiles are fed smoothly, while the sensor continuously count against the number of tiles that have been installed into the wall. As for the magnet, that's where the brilliance of an auto mahjong table lies. Through the magnet, the shuffler is able to repel, or attract the correct side of the magnetic tiles, so to ensure that tiles are installed into the wall face down. As magnets are integral to the operation of an auto mahjong table, it can also be impacted by the presence of foreign metal objects. This can happen when players accidentally pushes their coins, tokens or keys into the shuffling cabin. At this juncture, our Solor Mahjong tables are equipped to safely detect the foreign object and will stop operating to prevent any potential damage as a result from this obstruction. We've also written a comprehensive guide on what to do if your machine gets stuck like this. Once the tiles are completely stacked, that's when they are put on standby, waiting for the prevailing game to end so to deliver the next round of tiles. Stacking the Tiles: Diagonal Rollout vs Regular Rollout With regards to the way it's stacked, there are two types of auto mahjong tables: Diagonal Rollout and Standard Rollout. Diagonal rollout involves delivering the tiles to the playfield a a 30 degree angle to the table edge. This method is also known as Rollercoaster rollout due to the way it resembles the tracks of a rollercoaster. With diagonal rollout, players do not need to arrange the tiles before the game. On the other hand, regular rollout releases the tiles parallel to the table edge, requiring an additional step of arranging the tiles diagonally across each player. Apart from the minor inconvenience, Regular Rollout models tend to get jammed a little more, due to the way it's designed. Depending on the choice of Rollout, the table design and shuffling motor changes significantly. Which is why, you will find that most Diagonal Rollout table tend to cost a bit more, and can be a little thicker on the cabinet and motor. Having said that, the Solor Slimline table features one of the slimmest - if not the slimmest - cabinet in the market despite featuring a Diagonal Rollout (Rollercoaster) motor. This is one of the strongest attribute of the Slimline model. The Detachable Playfield Like the traditional mahjong game tables, an auto table also features a cushioned velvet like, soft cloth playfield that feels comfortable to touch, while facilitating the sliding and discarding of tiles. The main difference however is that, with an auto table, the playfield layer board is detachable, which gives owners access needed to service, maintain or even change out the playfield board after years of wear and tear. Auto Shuffling of Dices. No Mahjong game can start without a toss of the dice, which will determine who starts and from which part of the wall does the game starts from (Mahjong traditionally, is a game with a strong influence of luck, and hence, this process is culturally important in Mahjong). With an automatic table, the inbuilt dice shuffler ensures that players no longer requires the manual dices. In the Solor range of tables, players can also choose to use the fully silent digital dice option to keep noise levels low. The addition of these features expands the potential of the automatic mahjong table for players seeking a streamlined and enjoyable gaming experience.   LCD Control Panel And Wind Positions Finally, most automatic mahjong table are equipped with some sort of a control panel, which becomes the main source of control that the player interacts with. With the Solor Mahjong Tables, the Smart LCD Reader is capable of intelligently recording the dealer's position as well as the number of rounds that they have won in a row (连庄). It's also able to highlight the different seating positions of North, South, East and West (东南西北), making it easy for players to quickly take their seats during gameplay. Finally, the Smart LCD Reader also possesses the capability to detect the amount of tiles during shuffling, alerting players if there are any missing tiles in the set. This feature ensures that players have the required number of tiles to play the game fairly and accurately.   Conclusion By now, we hope that you have a visual idea of how an automatic mahjong table works, from shuffling, to sorting, and then to assembling the wall so to deliver the tiles immediately at a touch of a button. Players also get a high tech experience with regards to dice throwing and wind positions, while typically for a regular mahjong table, you will then have to ensure that you have manual dices while keeping track of the wind positions manually. Pool Dining Tables: Incredible Use of Space

A house is not a home. This is a saying that many of us know, regardless of where we’re from or what generation we hail from. While the concept is easy to understand, I would argue that many young, modern Singaporeans—and young people in other Asian and Western countries too—are facing the problem of living in a ‘house’ rather than a ‘home’. I’m certain there are plenty of us that treat our houses—especially apartments—as just a place to eat and sleep before going about with the rest of our days. I’ve seen many people, both friends and family, who live with having the bare minimum in their houses simply because they feel they don’t actually stay there much during the day and would rather be outside. This should not be the case.    So what does this have to do with dining pool tables? Having something valuable that creates joy in your home life is the first step into making your house into a home.  I believe that a dining pool table can help you make the transition from a house into a home. It provides you with an outlet for play while also making sure that you also have a practical space to use during work and meal times. The dual-purpose table allows you to efficiently utilise the largest space in your home and this is especially true for the modern home where space conservation is necessary.  Yes, having your own personalised game room will always be the dream. However, we cannot deny the fact that apartment spaces and CBD flats make having a dedicated playroom quite difficult. This is where owning your own dining pool table so appealing. With it, you won’t need to think about designing and creating a dedicated gaming room just to accommodate all your cool games and gadgets: you can just make them your living room’s centrepiece!   Practical Functionality: What More Can You Ask For? Dining pool tables facilitate themselves as being both a dining table and a pool table, but do you know that they can also come with other play options as well? In fact, some dining pool table tops are repurposed and advertised as being multi-functional for other types of games such as ping pong and air hockey. With a range of gaming options, dining pool tables can help you keep them all in one space (or table) while not compromising build quality or gameplay.  If you’re someone that’s more conscious about picking out furniture that fits your home, you won’t have to compromise and settle on having either aesthetic or functionality when purchasing a dining pool table. Most dining pool tables are completed with a wood or metallic finish so that they are functional and easy to maintain. This design feature pairs magnificently with the dining table side as it creates a beautiful centrepiece for you to serve any guests or family you might have over. When the pool table aspect is covered and not in use, dining pool tables look just like any other table, providing you an elegant and classy dining table while still being a fully functional pool table underneath it all.  In addition, the additional ‘table’ surface also acts as an extra layer of protection that helps to hide and protect your more delicate pool table accessories from potential pets or a child’s wandering hands. It’s essentially the table’s own secret storage compartment.  Perhaps you’re not keen on some of the standard designs on the market but fret not! Brands like Billiards Montfort offer a range of customisable options for you to create your own bespoke dining pool table. Instead of settling for just any dining pool table, why not just make one that is the right fit for you and your home rather than the other way around? Moreover, you won’t have to worry if you’re truly using it to its fullest. We understand that dining pool tables do have a substantial price tag on them, which is why it’s important to make sure the purchase is worthwhile for such a valuable investment. The pool table’s 2-in-1 build ensures it is regularly in use rather than being left aside in a corner (especially with lockdowns and social distancing). For families, a dining pool table would help to encourage your loved ones to join in on the fun, allowing for bonding sessions after dinner or during weekends when you just want to wind down and have some fun. If you’re worried about whether a dining pool table would be enough to accommodate yourself, friends, and family in the future without needing extra space, that won’t pose much of a problem. Dining pool tables follow standard pool table measurements, which means most dining pool tables can easily accommodate a minimum of 8 people. There won’t be a need for an extra table or having to consider upgrading (unless you want a new dining pool table!) in the future. With so many choices and versatility, it’s no wonder dining pool tables have been making such a big hit in the Singaporean market over recent years.     Who knows? Maybe by the end of it, this purchase will help to encourage the growth of your very own personalised man cave in the future. We certainly believe that a dining pool table is a step in the right direction for indulging the inner child in you.  Explore our range of Pool Dining Table.

5 Awesomely Unusual Gifts He’ll Love This Christmas

Christmas season is just around the corner and we bet you ladies are having a hard time coming up with something original to buy for the boys in your life (Both the old one and the young ones). You probably face this conundrum yearly. You know, brainstorming for hours and wind up getting a watch, a belt, or a briefcase. Here's where we come in. Of course, as you may already imagine, we're the authority when it comes to getting awesome stuff for men. And so, the editors gathered around the round table, participated in our usual beer and TCSS, and came up with 5 of our most original products that will guarantee excitement within the family this Christmas. 1. Retrocade Super Mini WHY THEY WILL LOVE IT! ✔   Having an Arcade at home is equivalent to a woman having a full-length shoe rack at home. ✔   Endless retro games included: 600+ to keep them busy all year, let alone Christmas! ✔   Some proper Papa-Kiddo video-game bonding over the joysticks.   Editor's thoughts: There's no doubt that Papa's gonna love this. Stocked with all the vintage games that he grew up with, this is like going back to the candy store we grew up with. And it's not just about the games itself—this machine is a total beast with more than 600 to toggle between but the idea of having your very own personal arcade machine at home? That's the best Christmas ever. The Super Mini Arcade Machine is available for you to try out, or you can check out more arcade machines here.   2. MEISTER-XT FOOSBALL TABLE WHY THEY WILL LOVE IT! ✔   Beer with Buddies, Football on Telly, Banter, Chips and of course, Foosball. ✔   Gushes with manly appeal with a blockish look, along with football inspired Mancave emblem. ✔   A fantastic family game for four.   Editor's thoughts: Firstly, this is a really legit foosball table and this is coming from us, people who see different makes of foosball tables day in and day out. The Meister XT plays very well and you can definitely be sure that this table will see plenty of use during the festive season. Don't let space be a reason not to get a foosball table though. You can always consider a foldable table like the Garlando Foldy Evolution. Check out the Meister XT Foosball Table in its full glory in our showroom, or explore more foosball tables here!   3. VDarts H2L WHY THEY WILL LOVE IT! ✔   If they have been spending lots of money on darts in the pub, this is it. ✔   It's perfect when groups of friends come by. ✔   And if practising is boring, play online!   Editor's thoughts: Chances are that your guy has been spending plenty of time and money playing darts on weekends, so here is a dartboard that replicates the EXACT experience in the bar at home. The best part? It's a fraction of the actual machine. How awesome is that? Check out the VDarts H2L Electronic Dartboard here, also available for viewing at our showroom. 4. Motion-XT 2 in 1 Game Table WHY THEY WILL LOVE IT! ✔   Swap games when you feel like it! ✔   Legit size that doesn't feel gimmicky to play on. ✔   Pool is the perfect adult game, while children will love the Air Hockey feature.   Editor's thoughts: The problem with most Multi Game tables is like the old adage of being the jack of all trades, master of none. There are 7-in-1, 10-in-1s but will you actually play any of those games? What we really like about the Motion-XT is how despite being a Multi Game table, the Motion-XT aims to do well at just two of the most played games in the world. That's what makes it a highly versatile table for your young ones or the adults. If you're still not satisfied, you can also easily add Table Tennis to the mix by getting a two-piece tabletop. Check out the Motion-XT right here.   5. Rega Planar 1 Turntable WHY THEY WILL LOVE IT! ✔   Vinyl sounds better and it's how they were recorded to sound. ✔   The entire experience makes you appreciate music better. ✔   Unnecessary, excess, and fancy. But it's why they'll love it.   Editor's thoughts: Vinyl records are getting fashionable again, and rightly so. It's nostalgic, it's interesting and of course, there is not a more refined way of listening to music at home. With time being a premium for most grownups, would you prefer to relax to Spotify, or to your favourite tracks spinning on a 180g LP? Furthermore, the Rega Planar 1 is a fantastic start to the world of vinyl. Despite packing a humble price tag, the Rega Planar 1 still remains the flagship of entry-level turntables, bearing Rega's signature spritely and expressive sound. For anyone looking to get a start, this is the perfect one. You can find the Rega Planar 1 Turntable here, also available for viewing at our showroom. And that sums up our 2017 Holiday Gift Guide with 5 of the most original products you can get for this season. Did you manage to find something that your husband/kids would like? We hope you did. And if you have any questions, do drop us a call or email and we'll be glad to talk to you about it! Merry Christmas!
